Resident Evil has formed Silent Hill to present a demo of a horror game

0

Horror game giants Silent Hill and Resident Evil were released this week. Konami and Capcom had online presentations for each of their respective series, giving us a behind-the-scenes look at what’s to come, whether it’s announcing new games and movies or showing off what we already knew was on the way. One of these presentations clearly, in my opinion, did a much better job of capturing the target audience.

Before I get to the nitty-gritty, Konami’s new Silent Hill games are clearly at a much earlier stage of development than Capcom’s Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake DLC, so I’m looking at these threads purely in terms of effective presentations. and I won’t judge them just by the in-game footage, because that would be unfair.

In fact, Resident Evil completely instructed Silent Hill. The overall production value and Capcom’s pace of presentation make for a much better experience than Konami’s demo. Although Konami is not a key developer on any of their upcoming projects, they did give a presentation that lasted 35 minutes; Still, even though it was only seven minutes longer than Capcom’s, it felt like an eternity.

I get that Konami had nothing to show for it, but it makes me wonder why the company chose to talk so much. The trailers for Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill F were amazing, so instead of drawing attention to them, the people on the green screen just stayed silent, saying things that meant nothing. Much of this could be cut.

By far the worst offender was Silent Hill: Ascension. It’s billed as “a new interactive video streaming experience” and Konami has never explained what that means, though he did talk about it for five minutes. The concept sounds great, but if you don’t want to say too much, they won’t say too much. You can form a cannon, watch with friends, and make decisions, but what that really means remains a mystery that turned an interesting idea into a deflated balloon.

Worst of all was the JJ Abrams “quote”, which read as if it had been written by his assistant at 3 in the morning.

“The Genvid experience is a wild, epic and innovative new way to immerse yourself in the horrors of Silent Hill.” If learning simple English taught me anything, it taught me next to nothing.

Again, I don’t mean to disparage any of these games, Silent Hill: Townfall looks like a lot of fun, and the trailer and behind-the-scenes footage didn’t live up to its expected reception. However, Capcom has done much better.

The Resident Evil showcase was created by someone who walked through the giant hall, Duke from Resident Evil Village talking about each game showcase. He showed much more creativity than some people on green screen, and although Capcom showed the talking heads, they acted. as an addition to what was shown and did not replace the time.

Resident Evil also had the distinct advantage of not returning to the series after a long decade and being able to focus on games that had already been announced, but that makes me think that Konami should have scaled back their showcase if there weren’t many to show. Not having much is fine, but don’t hold back on your window display if that’s the case.

To be clear, I don’t think Konami’s showcase bodes ill for the return of the Silent Hill franchise – all of these games are clearly in early development (the movie also appears to be concept art at this point) and the trailers for each one were actually quite good. It’s a shame attention was diverted away from them to spend too much time on empty letters, instead of making the showcase smaller and meaner than what could have been shown in Silent Hill.

Silent Hill and Resident Evil are coming out, at least in the near future, and hopefully we’ll have some healthy competition between the two that pushes them to be better. It would be good for everyone.

If you want to know more about these games, we have the system requirements for Resident Evil 4, and it looks like you’ll want to pet the dog in the new version too. We also have the system requirements for Silent Hill 2 Remake, as well as a breakdown of the Konami event.
