The Nvidia RTX 4080 is now official and it could be the best graphics card money can buy. While it won’t outperform the flagship RTX 4090, the successor to the RTX 3080 should still offer enthusiast levels of performance beyond mid-range options.
Nvidia originally announced two RTX4080 video cards when introducing GTC. The green team has since “released” its lower-spec 12GB model amid criticism that it’s just an overclocked RTX 4070.
To help sort through the sea of specs announced by Nvidia, we’ve rounded up everything we know about the RTX 4080 release date, price, specs, and benchmark rumours.
Here’s everything we know about the Nvidia RTX 4080 GPU:
Nvidia RTX 4080 Price
Nvidia RTX 4080 pricing information is now officially out and 16GB will set you back $1,199/£1,269.
Nvidia RTX 4080 release date
The Nvidia RTX 4080 release date is scheduled for November, which means it will appear a month after the release of the RTX 4090 graphics card.
Pre-orders for the Founders Edition or AIB models have not yet arrived, but a notification system is available on the official Nvidia website.
Nvidia RTX 4080 Specifications
The official Nvidia RTX 4080 specs have finally arrived, and the top-end card will feature 9728 CUDA cores, a clock speed of 2.51GHz, and a 256-bit memory bus. Now that the 12GB model will not arrive, the only version that will be available at launch is the 16GB variant. However, there is still a chance that the canceled card will show up as RTX 4070 at a later date.
RTX 4080 16GB | RTX 4080 12GB (canceled) | |
Video memory (GDDR6X) | 16 GB | 16 GB |
speed up the clock | 2.51GHz | 2.61GHz |
Basic Clock | 2.21GHz | 2.31GHz |
CUDA kernels | 9728 | 7680 |
Ray tracing kernels | third generation | third generation |
tensor nuclei | Fourth generation | Fourth generation |
tire width | 256 bit | 192 bit |
Nvidia’s high-performance graphics card also includes a new 12-pin PCIe Gen 5 power connector designed to draw 600W from power supplies over a single cable. So if you plan to replace your current GPU, you may need to upgrade your power supply or purchase an adapter that converts 6+2 setups.
Nvidia RTX 4080 Benchmarks
Nvidia RTX 4080 benchmarks were revealed by Greens’ team at the GeForce Beyond event, where the company claimed its new flagship graphics card was “2-4x faster than the 3080 Ti.”
We’ll have to wait until we get those GPUs to test that performance, but there seems to be a difference in performance between the RTX 4080 16GB and the RTX 4080 12GB. However, Nvidia’s DLSS 3.0 should help both cards deliver even more FPS.
Meanwhile, a recently leaked set of purported RTX 4080 16GB GPU benchmarks could give some insight into performance. The results paint an impressive picture in both synthetic and real-world playtests.
