Zing.cz got the opportunity to interview one of the creators of the GTFO game.
Daniel Kristoffersson, 3D Environment Artist at 10 Chambers, answered questions.
Zing: How long does the game last?
Daniel Christophersson: “We have been working on the game since 2015 and as you know it got a preview in 2019. I personally joined the team only last year, I’m such a newbie. It was at a time when 10 chambers were getting new jobs. At that time, about 30 people joined the team in one year.
Zing: How did you hear about the job offer at 10 Chambers?
Daniel Christophersson: “From friends, we just sat with beer (laughs). I’ve been thinking about change for a while and it was a great opportunity. Also, I was fascinated by their game, so I thought why not give it a try. Well, it turned out something for which I am sincerely grateful.”
Zing: GTFO looks very interesting. It has a lot of positive reviews on Steam. What has changed since Early Access?
Daniel Christophersson: “Uff… (laughs) There’s really a lot going on. Basically, we tried to make the game a little more mysterious and scary. We wanted players to really care about what’s next. We’ve tweaked various items and especially weapons, which were a bit uninteresting based on feedback. Therefore, they had to be slightly modified.
We’ve also been working on a new mode, The Rundown. In it you have to face monsters and get to a certain point within a given time limit. For this reason, we tried to create an environment in which the player did not get lost, which often happened when testing during frenzied action. However, we needed to make it a little easier for the players and make it a hardcore co-op game.
Otherwise, the colleagues also worked on localization, story, enemy design, character appearance and editing. I used to help them, we are still a small team. We also added breakpoints, which was a very welcome element that we picked up from the feedback. At first, none of us really liked it, because it went against the original idea of \u200b\u200bwhat the game should be. In the end, however, we recognized that his principle would not change significantly. Even so, we did not give a checkpoint every five meters.
We are currently working on new maps and areas that we want to add to the game during 2022.”
Zing: What new maps are you working on?
Daniel Christophersson: “Unfortunately, I cannot disclose this yet. However, our fans definitely have something to look forward to.”
Zing: During the game, it felt like I was going through a sci-fi space base, not a prison complex. Also, in some places I felt like I was appearing in Alien. Is there any inspiration?
Daniel Christophersson: “You’re right. GTFO has such a specific style that at certain points it resembles retro sci-fi or, shall we say, retro-futurism. We didn’t want to create an environment of some kind of high-tech base, because it just didn’t suit us and it’s not in our style.Agree with Alien-like.In particular, more with the Alien movie. There is a little bit of inspiration in it, after all, we think we promoted it as a game where “Left 4 Dead meets aliens”.
Zing: Do you have something to say to players who haven’t tried GTFO yet?
Daniel Christophersson: “Be sure to try the game. We put a lot of work into it and hope you have fun with it. If your gang is looking for something that fits hardcore co-op game where no mistake is forgiven, definitely feel free to jump into GTFO “.
