Witty Monkey Island Adventure Game Lucy Dreaming Is Available On Steam

If you’re a fan of Monkey Island-style adventure games, the recent Lucy Dreaming might be next on your list. Following on the heels of the overwhelming positive response to Guybrush Threepwood’s return in Return to Monkey Island, developer Tall Story Games hopes to win over fans with Lucy Dreaming’s delightful British sense of humor and point-and-click puzzle designs. .

Lucy is a young girl who regularly has nightmares, but discovers that she can learn to influence and control the very nature of her dreams. She leads on a fast-paced adventure that jumps between the everyday world and the strange realms of her mind. For example, the first thing you need to do is save poor teddy bear Lucy from the clutches of her maniac brother. Once you restore (and fix) the rather scruffy toy, it will come to life in Lucy’s dream and join her on her adventures.

The puzzles themselves will be familiar to fans of point-and-click games, and while all of the first ones we’ve seen followed a pretty neat logic, they certainly had to do some digging to find the right solutions. Luckily, Lucy keeps track of her current goals in her journal, and while there aren’t any explicit prompts, there is an option to highlight all the really important items currently on screen, which can be very helpful if you get stuck.

When it comes to writing, Lucy Dreaming wastes no time in telling plenty of witty jokes. The jokes feel thick and fast, landing pretty well across the board. She definitely has a very classic British sensibility, further accentuated by the actors’ wonderful regional accents.

Dominic Armato, the voice of Guybrush Threepwood, also appears, saying that “a whimsical love letter to adventure games like Lucy Dreaming seemed like the right opportunity for him to come back.” Lucy Dreaming is clearly taking inspiration from elsewhere as well, with a poster on Lucy’s bedroom wall that bears a striking resemblance to Mele from Secret of Monkey Island, simply referred to in-game as the “Legal Gray Area”.

If you like comical point-and-click puzzles, Lucy Dreaming is now available on Steam and is definitely worth checking out. If not, we’ve got plenty more of the best indie PC games to check out.
