PC review Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is a great outing with a bit of a hook

There are series that you get to only years later. However, my experience is that it’s never too late to jump on the bandwagon if you want to, so when I was offered a review of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, I didn’t hesitate for a second. The following paragraphs will tell you how it went on PC and whether it works as well as Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered.

Both parts of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection will offer you a brilliant story

Each of us has a relative who gets into trouble from time to time. Some like to borrow, others dream of free housing, but sooner or later they always knock on your doorstep and beg. Nathan Drake’s brother belongs to this type of people. Even though he was the older brother, trouble just always clung to his heels, so it was Nathan who became the one who constantly bled from trouble until his brother Samuel simply disappeared during one of the events. For years, the protagonist of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s Way thought he was gone, but now his brother is back and he needs a helping hand again.

The storytelling is really wild, so you won’t get bored even for a minute. Basically, he moves from one action to another, and you can only breathe at the moments when one of the many scenes running on the screen masterfully presents the plot. I have to say that I haven’t come across anything more aggressive than the story of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in a long time. Thanks to this, while playing, I created a relationship not only with the main character, but also with other thieves with different attitudes, having a unique character, as well as motivations that encourage them to certain actions. It’s definitely a delicacy that won’t go out of your head right away.

The storytelling in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, the second part of this collection, was also a hit. Instead of two boys, I got a pair of heroines Chloe and Nadine, who, unlike the brothers, initially do not have such a connection with each other. However, joint cooperation always strengthens the relationship, and thus a certain form of friendship is formed between the couple. Although this story is shorter than Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, even it cannot be denied by the great richness of the whole presentation and countless information that you can absorb more efficiently due to the fact that Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection has a Czech localization.

The plots of both works are truly brilliant, and even worse, they take place in corridors that often give the impression at first glance that they are more extensive locations, which quickly increases the overall credibility of the places you pass through on your travels. . Literally every place you visit in the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is breathtaking. Whether it’s long forgotten ruins, sandy shores full of treasure, or the depths of a prison where you enjoy the joys of everyday life behind bars.

Action is what happens here

The beautifully written and acted story is effectively supported by action-packed passages that feature pistols, rifles and sometimes fists. Because sometimes you run out of ammo and then you’re left with nothing but a right hook. Skirmishes in Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection are fast-paced, and thanks to active AI, you also have to be very tactical in them. One cover won’t last long. As for me, I thoroughly enjoyed every encounter. I was also impressed by the obstacles in the environment, which require maximum perception of details and work with the environment to overcome.

A game focused on treasure hunting would not be a worthy representative of its genre if, in addition to overcoming enemies and various obstacles for movement, it did not offer puzzles based on solving various puzzles invented by ancient civilizations or characters from times long past. Puzzles of all kinds are another strength of the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. Although they are not too demanding, they are not offensive either, so they fit perfectly into the overall picture of a fun action game that is not afraid from time to time to force the player to use brain circuits for a while, which other actions successfully work to neglect.

What makes shooting better in Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection?

As with Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, one of the elements that makes the game more enjoyable is the choice between a controller and a mouse that more or less automatically connects to the keyboard. In the case of the Spider-Man title, I wasn’t able to use the second of the alternatives much because I felt that the game from consoles to traditional PC player tools was not fully optimized. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is much better in this regard for several reasons.

The main thing, probably, is that in front of the player is not a giant city in which he has to maneuver, but a more or less clearly defined corridor, inside which he moves. As a result, the situations offered by the open world do not arise here. The second is that the optimization management is really advanced, so at any time you can switch between the driver and the basic configuration of any PC owner and not feel a significant difference, which I consider a big plus. Not everyone wants to reach for console hardware on a PC, and the aiming format may not suit someone, so everyone will surely be pleased that control is an element in the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection that you don’t need to think too much about.

However, both on the gamepad and on the keyboard and mouse, you have to prepare for an incredible amount of fast-paced events that the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection literally overflows with. While in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered I didn’t really notice this console aspect, or it was heavily neglected due to the open world and the possibilities of the work itself, here it was a large part of the gameplay, so I was a little after a while. stunned by this. I could definitely imagine some moments without having to click anything. However, I understand that for a console game, this must be considered. So I don’t really blame the game, but I have to work with the fact that the constant pressing of certain keys may not suit everyone.

The technical side is breathtaking

Developers usually cannot boast of optimizing games for consoles. Playing Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, I couldn’t really complain about this element. Without ray tracing, the game ran very well most of the time at high settings, no matter what situation I found myself in. Thanks to this, I fully enjoyed both moving around the city and clashes with bosses and their minions. For Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, I really expected that corridor locations wouldn’t affect my Intel Core i7-4790K, GTX 1080 Ti, and 16GB PC too much. In the end, therefore, I was unpleasantly surprised.

I noticed signs of certain problems from the very beginning, but attributed them more to the fact that I was moving in a more open space than to the fact that it could be in the game itself. But once I got into the corridors, the situation didn’t improve much, so I started to figure out how to reduce the significant drops in fps. My first route was to the settings, where I greatly reduced the level of all graphics options. However, regardless of whether I played on Ultra or Low, the shift within frames was minimal. In addition, the range of possible modifications was unusually small compared to Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered.

Of course, the game had no shortage of a 30 fps frame lock option, which I ended up using as well. Unfortunately, the result did not satisfy me, because even after turning on this item, the game did not offer me a stable fps. And to make matters worse, there were also crashes after that, so in the finale I returned to a slightly peppy, but quite functional alternative in the form of ultra settings and an open ceiling for pictures. An interesting paradox was that Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection worked better outside the corridor than inside it.

While there’s nothing remarkable about the optimization, at least in my opinion, the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection did a first-class job on the graphics side. Thanks to this, you can consistently enjoy the game world and its inhabitants, and some moments are breathtaking, so that you just won’t forget them. However, at the end of this section, I would like to state that I am primarily talking about my setup in terms of optimization. I do not rule out that somewhere the game will go better. However, it did not suit my car much better than the recently played title with Spider-Man in the title role, which is not the best calling card of the corridor and this, of course, was reflected in the overall rating.

Only the technical side really hurts the excellent collection of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is a collection of two great games whose history is so easy to remember. In addition to the story, both games also feature superb action scenes, robust AI that can overwhelm you, and puzzles that will never let you get bored. The really exciting part is the graphics processing, which is top notch.

A minor drawback of this part in the eyes of some PC players will be quick events, of which there are many. That said, it doesn’t hurt the whole much, which can’t be said for the occasional crashes and optimizations that could have been a lot better. If the game were better optimized, I would not be afraid to give the same rating as the console version. However, errors cannot be ignored, and therefore the final score is lower than if the technical side of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection turned out right.

The game has been reviewed on:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K
  • Graphic design: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
  • FRAME: 16 GB
  • Difference: 2560×1440
  • Settings: Ultrahigh
