Halo 2’s ending is as iconic as it gets. Master Chief’s “End That Fight” line might hold the record for the coolest moment in video games, let alone FPS games. So we should consider ourselves lucky, because Halo 2’s ending was almost too different, and an incredibly dedicated fan has just finished animating all of the previously lost storyboards, giving us a better look at the original ending.
This colossal feat was accomplished by YouTuber C3 Sabertooth, who turned all of the original storyboards into a roughly three-hour video series, with the final video recently being posted.
The project was only made possible by former Bungie developer Lee Wilson who shared a lot of storyboards and artwork for Halo 2 and Halo 3 and then, in the early stages of development, C3 Sabertooth has used to develop the Halo 2 original story (via Windows Central).
As far as fan-made projects go, this definitely falls short. C3 Sabertooth has added voice acting, sound effects, music, and even dynamic transitions to help bring any comic book-style storyboard to life. C3 Sabertooth also provides a lot of context regarding the actual storytelling and Halo lore between the generated storyboard segments.
Some of the voiceovers even come from cuts from other Halo games, further underscoring the legitimacy of this reconstruction of the Halo 2 ending.
