Starfield Reddit is on fire with discussion of Bethesda’s next RPG, and who can blame them. It’s one of the most anticipated games of the coming year, and Bethesda has kept quiet about the new mechanics and ideas we can expect from the space game. So naturally, Starfield Reddit now thinks we might be able to kill our parents in-game after the community did some digging.
Can we literally kill our parents in Starfield? It’s unlikely, but Reddit convincingly demonstrates how it could have happened, and it comes straight from the mouth of game director Todd Howard.
In a recent “Constellation Questions” video that also seems to confirm that the beloved Elder Scrolls fan will be returning to Starfield, Howard explains how we can remove traits through certain activities and quests.
“I love our list of traits, it’s a lot of fun, but obviously each one of them also has some kind of negative, and we have a way in the game, the type of activity or quest you can complete, to remove that trait. , not “I don’t like my character, I want to start over”. Each of the [the trait quests] it’s something you can decide to remove the entire trait for the rest of your game.”
Without the prospect of killing your parents, as the Starfield Reddit concluded, this sounds like a really interesting RPG idea. Linking trait removal quests and activities adds another level of depth that ties how you create your character to the world, or the universe, in this case, and that sounds like a great idea.
So what does this have to do with the murder of your parents? As noted in this Starfield Reddit post, Howard’s quote isn’t the only interesting snippet from the video. The “Baby Things” trait appears on frames with a description that reads:
“Your parents are alive and well and you can visit them at home. But 10% of all the money you earn is automatically deducted and sent to them.”
It’s great to finance your parents during their space retirement and to be able to visit them. The only problem is that if he removes that trait, surely that means he can no longer visit his parents, so they are no longer “alive and healthy”. If not, you have actually indirectly killed them, which is both horrible and ridiculous.
Redditor OCIVIRO also commented on the idea and the kind of comedic quests that Bethesda could implement where you try to kill your parents.
“This could be a comedic questline about you trying to get rid of your parents and they always find an unexpected way to continue your problems, which get worse and worse until the end of this questline,” they write. “As the first step of the quest, you decide to give them a bloodthirsty alien monster as a pet, and in order for them to agree to let this alien into their house, you say that you will pay with money and food. So it turns out that the parents are perfectly fine, and the monster behaves like a good pet (but doesn’t like you at all), and now you have to pay more, and the parents have bodyguards.
I don’t think we can kill our parents in Starfield with our bare hands, but if removing that trait means you can’t visit them anymore, the question is, what happened to your parents? This is another fun thing for the people on Starfield Reddit and I commend you for it.
