Destiny 2 Rainbow Transfer Is Free As Devs Confirm 5 Strange Characters

In honor of National Coming Out Day on October 11, Bungie is offering the community a free Destiny 2 rainbow transmat. The developer has also confirmed the gender identity or sexual orientation of the five FPS game characters via of colorful wallpaper images.

In a blog post, Bungie explained why Declaration Day was especially important within and beyond the community surrounding the popular space game.

“Coming out is not limited to a day, a month, or even a year. It is a journey whose sole purpose is to become you, and no matter where you are on your journey, you deserve to shine,” the blog post read. “Today, we’re proud to permanently release the End of the Rainbow transmat effect for all players to make room for that glow, and we’re also excited to share a set of special wallpapers that celebrate several rare Destiny 2 characters.” .

Players can get Rainbow Transmat for free by visiting this page and using the code R9J-79M-J6C. Transmat, officially called “End of the Rainbow”, sees the player materialize from the end of a colorful rainbow and spin around as soon as they land in place.

The wallpaper features all five of the game’s characters against a background of colors representing various Pride flags.

The first shows Saint-14, who controls the Trials of Osiris, in the rainbow colors of the original Pride Flag. In 2020 a Destiny 2 Confirmed Author Saint-14’s romantic relationship with Osiris, Warlock and former leader of the Vanguard, whose story is integral to the development of Destiny 2.

Another shows Eramis, the recently thawed leader of Eliksni, wearing the colors of the lesbian flag. According to Destiny 2 lore, Eramis had a wife and “they raised many young together,” which some have interpreted to mean that same-sex reproduction is possible between species.

The third shows Mara Sov in the colors of the bisexual flag. While it was already canon that she had a lover named Sjor Eido, known as female, Bungie revealed the Awakened Queen’s sexual orientation for the first time. Many Destiny lore enthusiasts believe that she once had a romantic relationship with Lord Shaxx, but that seems like a muddled version of what the story actually entails.

The fourth wallpaper features Nimbus, who will be joining the game as a real character with the Lightfall expansion as part of a race called Cloud Striders. Nimbus is found under the colors of the non-binary flag, and Bungie Employee Confirmed the character will use the pronouns they/them. In the last card, Drifter is depicted under a pansexual pride flag, indicating that he is attracted to people, regardless of their gender. Although he currently enjoys a flirty relationship with Eris Morn, this is the first time that Bungie has made a definitive statement about his sexual orientation.

They’re not the only openly LGBTQ+ characters in the game, Oryx, the raid boss of King’s Fall, is transgender and transitioned from female to male. Devrim Kay has a husband named Mark and Ana Bray was in a known relationship with another woman. The game’s narrative also hints that Hawthorne is a lesbian and that Uldren Sov (now Raven) was involved in a same-sex relationship. There are also several references to such a relationship between the Fallen Explorers and the Guardians.

In recent years, Bungie has taken steps to celebrate the diversity of its characters and community members. When developers display gender relations and identities of all kinds, they also signal to players around the world that the community accepts them for who they are. In an industry with a history of toxicity, appreciating inclusion goes a long way toward giving gamers the freedom to be themselves in game worlds and in real life.
