Meta Connect 2022 is something for VR fans to look out for. Along with the official confirmation of the long-awaited Meta Quest Pro, there have been several unexpected Meta Quest 2 (formerly Oculus Quest 2) reveals. Speaking onstage with Mark Zuckerberg, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella confirmed that the Xbox Game Pass library is coming to the Meta Quest store.
However, that doesn’t mean we’ll suddenly have VR versions of blockbusters like Forza Horizon 5 or Halo Infinite. Instead, you’ll be able to plug in an Xbox controller and stream 2D flat-screen games directly to your headset, as demonstrated at Connect 2022 with Microsoft Flight Simulator.
This is achieved through Xbox Cloud Gaming, a streaming platform only available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers that gives you access to hundreds of games. It’s an experience Meta likens to “having a private theater available at all times,” cementing Meta Quest 2’s position as the leader among the best VR headsets.
However, aside from the Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro, compatibility with other VR headsets remains unclear. While it still receives regular updates, it’s currently unclear if Xbox Cloud Gaming will make it to the original Oculus Quest. However, given Microsoft’s continued push to bring Xbox Game Pass to new platforms, we’re not ruling it out. No release date was given either, with the Oculus blog simply saying, “We look forward to revealing more about this as soon as possible.”
If cloud gaming isn’t your thing, fear not; Meta Connect 2022 brought news for several native Quest 2 games. Confirming the release dates for Among Us VR (November 10) and The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2 (December 1), former PSVR exclusive Iron Man VR is also doing the Meta Quest 2 Launch on November 3rd. So if you’re a fan of VR, you won’t miss any major releases in the coming months.
