Tips for playing Elden Ring

The article does not reveal anything about the plot, but only comments on the game mechanics.

Character and procedure – especially for beginners

• If you feel clumsy (control), choose a warrior with maximum strength, put on the heaviest armor.
• Keep an eye on the overall filling of the character, “Medium” is still ok, but with “Heavy” you are already too slow.
• If you rely on your reflexes, choose an assassin character with maximum agility and wear light clothing.
• If you want to play carefully and stay away from enemies, choose a wizard or an archer.
• If you are a beginner, then a safe combo is Prisoner with a wand at a distance and a shield at close range.
• Focusing on one profession will always be stronger than fluctuating between two or more.
• At a later stage of the game, you will learn how to reset all of your character’s stats.
• In the later stages of the game, you get access to an almost unlimited amount of resources to upgrade weapons.

• It’s an open world: if you get stuck, just try to go somewhere else and come back later, stronger.
• It can easily happen that in 4 locations you will come across 4 bosses that you don’t have yet – go back to the open world to collect and upgrade.
• The list of “Grace” teleports on the map can be scrolled from left to right (L1 / R1 on the controller).
• The order of the regions in this list (from left to right) can usually be considered an indicator of their complexity.
• Do not leave the area without proper research, you may miss an item, weapon, merchant, etc.
• Watch out for optional bosses, some drop important items or upgrades upon victory.
• At the same time, however, an optional boss can be encountered that is too strong and should return later.
• Beware of circular teleport “gravestones” and teleport chests – they can take you anywhere.
• Not all details about the game map world are recorded/showed, consider writing your own notes.

New mechanics and changes – not just for veterans

• There is no “permanent” additional death penalty (like World Tendecy or Hollowing).
• The weapon does not wear out, it does not need to be repaired (but it needs to be improved).
• The item for displaying signs of a cooperative player is not consumed if you do not call anyone.
• The game world is huge – your stamina is not used/consumed unless you are in combat.
• Skeletons can be killed with anything (some things are more effective), you just need to hit them again after the bones drop.
• In the Souls series, entering an unknown environment took place with a raised shield – it is better to use stealth here.

Recommended Topics

• The talisman (works like the Souls in the Rings series) gradually regenerates health even during combat.
• Talisman of Repetitive Attacks is a great combo for weapons with rapid bleeding.
• Katanas are very sharp and therefore usually cause bleeding (“blood loss”, a special condition in the game).
• The third type of permanent refillable bottle (Physick) allows you to mix elixirs (not just healing ones) when found.
