It looks like the FIFA 23 Guardians are having reaction times for Neo from The Matrix. Players of EA’s latest soccer game have posted hilarious videos on FIFA Reddit and other social media showing goalkeepers making incredible penalty saves. The latest entry in the FIFA series, released on September 30, and our FIFA 23 review report that he endured most of the way, but still managed to make some shots in 90 minutes.
One of the funniest trends that players have started to notice when diving into this year’s game is the incredible reflexes some goalkeepers display, especially when facing ghastly penalties. Several clips posted on FIFA Reddit and other platforms show goalkeepers diving in the wrong direction to contort their bodies and go the other way for a last-second save.
User tomfumtarn shared a video on the FIFA subreddit that captured goalkeeper Peter Gulaci’s incredible reaction. Initially, as he fires the kick, Gulaci begins to lunge purposefully to the right (to the left from the shooter’s perspective). However, as the ball flies into the goal pocket, Gulaci suddenly picks up his feet and, with almost superhuman agility, manages to launch himself in the opposite direction to stop the ball.

Other users have posted similar videos, and gamers in reviews say the same thing happened to them. Some users say that while controlling the goalkeeper, they chose the wrong direction to jump, only to have their goalkeeper turn around to make a save.
The first live game customization update has been released, including the setting “Reduced accuracy of penalties taken when the composure ring is yellow or red”, making it even more difficult to execute those perfect penalties regardless of the player.
