nvidia RTX4000 The graphics cards are officially here to dethrone the current-gen GeForce RTX 3000 series, but not every GPU in Team Green’s expected lineup has seen the light of day. To help you navigate the tangled waters of announcements, leaks, and rumours, we’ve rounded up everything we know about next-gen pixel boosters.
So far, we’ve only heard of the best desktop graphics card, but we’re hoping that GPUs will eventually find their way into the best gaming laptops and become part of the GeForce Now.Nvidia streaming service. Each will likely release at different times, but they should all benefit from technologies like Nvidia DLSS 3.0 and Nvidia Reflex.
Since the RTX 4000 GPUs are sure to deliver a high level of performance, these next-gen graphics cards could face stiff competition from the likes of AMD RDNA 3 and Intel Arc Alchemist. Fortunately, we’ve already seen some of the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, and we don’t have to wait long to find out how the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 stack up against their competitors.
Here’s everything we know about the Nvidia RTX 4000 GPUs:
Nvidia RTX 4000 release date
Nvidia’s RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 GPUs are now official, but the RTX 4070 and 4060 didn’t appear in the same GTC keynote. The first release date for the RTX 4000 is October 12, when the RTX 4090 hits stores, while you’ll have to wait until November to get your hands on one of the RTX 4080 graphics cards; yes, there is more than one specification.
We may see an RTX 4090 Ti appear after Halloween, but that seems unlikely as Nvidia is keeping quiet about its entry-level and mid-range graphics cards. Several RTX 4000 model names are now listed as EEC markings, which is not guaranteed by ETA, but confirms claims that they will arrive in a few months.
nvidia rtx 4000 price
Nvidia rates the RTX 4000 series slightly higher than the RTX 3000 series.
The Nvidia RTX 4080 flagship comes in two flavors, a 12GB version priced at $899/£949 and a 16GB model priced at $1,199/£1,269. While you can’t get it at MSRP at launch due to chip shortages and supply constraints, by comparison, the RTX 3080 debuted at $699 for 10GB and $1,249 for 12GB; the latter was quickly brought down by the 12GB RTX 3080 at $1,199.
In entry-level enthusiast terms, the RTX 4090 is priced at $1,599 / £1,679. That’s only slightly more than the RTX 3090, which has an MSRP of $1,499.
The RTX 4060 and RTX 4070 aren’t official yet, so we can only speculate on their cost, using the flagships as a starting point. We expect the RTX 4070 to cost around $549-699 and the RTX 4060 around $349-500.
Nvidia RTX 4000 Spec Rumors
The Nvidia RTX 4000 specs are a bit confusing as the green team likes to release multiple models under the same name.
More generally, all RTX 4000 GPUs are powered by Ada Lovelace’s new architecture, which improves on RTX processors and neural rendering engines. They also support the new improved DLSS 3.0 scaling which doesn’t work on older RTX GPUs.
There are two GeForce RTX 4080 graphics cards this time around, one with 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM and the other with 16GB. This is a good place to start, as games like Far Cry 6 have trouble running anything under 12GB at higher resolutions and settings (like ray tracing), but AMD Radeon GPUs have been clocked at 16GB since its RTX 3000 competitors entered the market. .
Nvidia claims that the RTX 4080 offers two to four times the speed of the RTX 3080 Ti in RacerX, but that will certainly depend on which model you go for. It should be noted that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is not positioning them as a replacement for the RTX 3000 series, but as an addition to the enthusiast lineup of it.
The RTX 4090 is powered by a whopping 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM, leading Ada Lovelace. Although it’s supposed to be power hungry, Nvidia recommends an 850W PSU, so we’re not in four figures yet.
According to a reliable source save 7kimi, the cards may have an Nvidia RTX 4090 Ti using a “full” version of the AD102 GPU. The tipster clarifies that it is not clear if this will become a real product, but the advanced graphics card can be equipped with 46 GB of GDDR6 video memory, but it will require two 16-pin power connectors.
Overall performance claims for the AD102 GPU have also surfaced online, with insiders stating that the Nvidia RTX 4090 Ti can run Control at 4K 160fps with DLSS and ray tracing enabled.
CUDA kernels | L2 cache | |
AD102 | 18,432 | 96MB |
---|---|---|
AD103 | 10,752 | 64MB |
AD104 | 7680 | 48MB |
AD106 | 4608 | 32MB |
AD107 | 3072 | 32MB |
Other leaks point to improved AD104 specs as the RTX 4070 appears to have the performance level of the RTX 3090 Ti. It also has higher clock speeds than the RTX 4090, which could make it a great mid-range option.
Nvidia RTX 4000 Benchmark Spec
The Nvidia RTX 4000 benchmark hasn’t surfaced yet, but that hasn’t stopped leakers from sharing information about potential performance. Some claim that the GeForce RTX 4090 can double the performance of the RTX 3090 in both standard rasterization and ray tracing. In terms of processing power, there are rumors that the RTX 4090 could break the 100 teraflops limit, potentially surpassing the capabilities of the RTX 3090 Ti.
New Geekbench data points to a larger gap between Nvidia’s Lovelace and Ampere, as benchmark results show the RTX 4090 to be 60% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti. Naturally, we’ll have to test the card ourselves to unleash its true potential, as raw GPU power doesn’t necessarily paint the true picture of performance.
However, higher and higher levels of performance require higher and higher levels of power consumption. That’s where the new PCIe Gen 5 interface comes in, first unveiled on the RTX 3090 at Intel’s innovation event. It can deliver up to 600W of power for a graphics card, but it’s also much smaller and less bulky than the eight-pin PCIe power connectors we’re used to.
We can expect official third-party benchmarks to accompany the RTX 4090 on October 12.
