Mark Zuckerberg is best known for Facebook, but Meta Quest Pro is now a priority for the CEO. After laying out his ambition to create a $100 billion metaverse business, he’s slowly pushing the successor to social media giant Oculus Quest 2. A new tech demo, officially known as Project Cambria, provides new insights into how he handles the mixed reality (MR) games and their visual capabilities.
Meta Quest Pro MR technology combines the power of virtual reality with augmented reality (AR), placing virtual objects in a real environment. This allows you to see the physical world around you as you play, setting Project Cambria apart from other major competitors for a VR headset. In this case, Zuckerberg shows off MR’s fencing game on his head and it looks pretty impressive.
In a short 51-second Facebook video later posted by VR Trailers & Clips, Zuckerberg was joined by Olympian Lee Kiefer and two-time Olympic medalist Gierek Meinhardt. After a few rounds Mark is sweating and you can hear Kiefer praising the demo as “really perfect”. Unfortunately, there are no direct shots of the upcoming VR headset in the trailer, as the Cambria is effectively out of focus.
Facebook heavily compresses uploaded videos, so the clip doesn’t give a good idea of Cambria’s graphical capabilities. However, the tech demo clearly demonstrates the headphones’ ability to reproduce color. – strong contrast to the black and white transition of Oculus Quest 2.
If you’re hoping for a more traditional VR experience, don’t worry. While Meta says the Cambria is an “industrial-grade professional mixed reality device” that can cost three Oculus Quest 2 headsets, it’s also compatible with Oculus Quest and Quest 2 versions. Oculus Quest 3. So even with this change in technology, you can still bring back your old favorite games.
