Nvidia’s RTX 4000 GPUs are due next month, but custom RTX 4090 models are already on sale in Hong Kong. Throwing a card at a street vendor may mean you have a lot of stock, but buying it too early will ruin your wallet.

According to Videocardz, RTH4000 We are talking about the Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC graphics card, which apparently sells for 20,000 HK crowns (around $2,548). That’s $1,000 more than the MSRP, but still cheaper than previous retail listings for the same card.

It’s worth noting that Nvidia hasn’t released the RTX 4000 drivers yet, so early adopters won’t be able to use the next-gen GPU just yet. Unsurprisingly, the GeForce Experience public update will be released on October 12, so Gigabyte’s card is essentially an expensive paperweight until then.

Last week, Nvidia officially announced the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, two of the top contenders for graphics cards based on the Ada Lovelace architecture. Since then, several custom versions of the green team’s flagship have appeared online, including a possible successor to Galax Serious Gaming.

There’s no sign of an RTX 4070 or RTX 4060 just yet, and Nvidia says current-gen RTX 3000 graphics cards will “remain part of the new family.” Choosing an Ampere model would mean no DLSS 3.0, but steady inventory levels and early RTX 4000 sales could bode well in terms of GPU affordability.
