Resident Evil Village DLC Makes Dimitrescu’s Castle Even Scarier

my time with Resident Evil Village Shadows of Rose everything was too short. However, despite walking the familiar halls of Dimitrescu Castle, there is still a terrifying surprise lurking around every corner. Playing the Shadows of Rose DLC was just as intense as the opening moments of Resident Evil Village and I honestly wanted more.

After a rude interruption from the “Masked Marquis” as his minions crush his latest victim, a new character, Rose, soon becomes his next target. However, she is not entirely dark, as some sort of spirit appears to guide her through the mold-infested halls of Dimitrescu’s castle, writing brightly colored text in the air. Sometimes those words turn into valuable items, like extra bullets or a healing spray, and the new monsters were sometimes a bit unforgiving.

Although I know Dimitrescu’s castle, it is now infested with path-blocking mold, a deadly substance that kills Rose after too much exposure. I’ve been ambushed by these face eaters more than once, especially in dark, musty rooms where they can appear from almost anywhere, including through walls and falling from ceilings. They move unpredictably, like the infected humans in previous Resident Evil zombie games, and sometimes their moans of pain are incredibly disconcerting to me.

The gameplay is almost the same as the main horror game, but Rose can also combine items to create bullets and a healing spray. Eventually, after failing to suck out Rose’s face with one of the many Face Eater mold monsters, she finds a familiar vial that amplifies Rose’s powers. By holding one of the buttons on her shoulder, I can force her to clear any mold that blocks her path by freezing one of the cores. She can also freeze face eaters for a short time or counter her attacks if she catches them in her hands if she has enough charges.

Shortly after finding the vial there is a short chase scene with something big stomping behind me, but I can’t tell exactly what it is because my time ran out shortly after the chase started. Exploring Dimitrescu’s castle with a new threat constantly appearing out of nowhere makes it quite stressful. I can’t wait to find out what will happen in this strange and nightmarish world when Resident Evil Village Winters launches on October 28.
