EA has announced that The Sims 4 will be free-to-play soon, changing the in-game payment model to give Maxis Life Sim players more direct access to additional content.

The Sims 4 will be free-to-play on October 18 next month, which means PC players won’t have to pay for the base game starting next month, according to the game’s Origin page.

A special stream on the same day as the free-to-play game launches will also be more detailed, but EA has already announced plans to release additional content in the future.

All players who have already purchased The Sims 4 will receive a Desert Luxe Pack as a gift.

EA may have decided to change the base game of The Sims 4 to tempt more people with the endless list of add-ons released for the 2014 game, from expansion to medium game packs and small stuff packs. There are even mini-collections called kits that provide more options in the game.

Before The Sims 4 was free to play, EA offered a free demo of Sim Creation along with the ability to try the game for free.

You can head over to the official Sims 4 Origin Store page right now to check out the game for free on October 18, and even add the game to your wishlist as a reminder of the change closer to that date.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed by any stretch of the imagination, The Sims 4’s free-to-play release could mean that EA and Maxis think the game has reached the end of its lifecycle, or that a possible The Sims 5 could be coming soon. . Earlier this year, we even set a release date and wish list for The Sims 5.
