Assassin’s Creed Mirage will not have modern episodes

On September 10, Ubisoft Forward confirmed Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the next big game in the long-running RPG franchise. Set in 9th-century Baghdad, the story focuses on Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character first introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The game is known to take place 20 years before the events of Valhalla.

While the upcoming game features many elements from the franchise that Assassin’s Creed fans will know and love, one element seems to be missing this time around. Assassin’s Creed Mirage creative director Stefan Boudon said in an interview with Game Rant that the game will no longer have modern elements like before.

Traditionally, mainline AC games have a story split between past and present, portraying the modern protagonist outside of the Animus. According to Boudon, the reason for the lack of modern chapters in Mirage is “that they wanted to focus on the history of the Basim when they were in Baghdad in the 9th century”.

The Animus is still in the game, part of the beginning and end of AC Mirage, but “we won’t have a day during the game.”

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Luna and PC in 2023.
