September 9 marked the release of Splatoon 3, the third installment of Nintendo’s hugely popular paint shooter. The latest game in the series not only updated gameplay and improved old game modes, but also introduced the series’ first full-fledged story mode.
Titled “Return of the Mammals,” Splatoon 3’s story mode continues the battle against the Octarians, led by the evil DJ Octavio. Here’s what to expect when you fire up Splatoon 3’s story mode.
Players will meet Agent 3, the main character of the story. Agent 3 is a member of the Squidbeak Splatoon and his main objective is to defeat Octavio and bring back the big zap fish. The new mode sees characters both new and old, with the triumphant return of original Splatoon heroes Kali and Mari. Despite the return of old characters, they only appear in theaters, as the campaign mode is strictly single-player.
There is a world that players can explore and use to journey through different levels with multiple objectives and challenges to ensure repetition is not an issue. Each level is played as a normal paint war game where players use the power of paint and different types of weapons to destroy enemies.
