A Halo mod that turns the original trilogy into a colossal game

The next Halo mod wants to turn Bungie’s original trilogy of space games into one giant game with new levels, modern mechanics, and many other changes.

A new mod for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, dubbed Halo Reborn, will bring the original trilogy together and show what it would look like on a modern PC. All three games will feature new environments, weapons, encounters, and level design changes, as well as new mechanics and cut content.

The mod’s team lead, Alexis, told us that more destructible items, foliage, and buildings are planned for the mod, and the tree collapsing after being hit by a grenade in a recent Gameplay video is an example of how these add-ons they work together. . There will even be four-player online co-op, but not split-screen “because it’s on PC.”

The new levels are also built from scratch, paying homage to the original trilogy, with Alexis adding that the 14-man team “expands on the original games with a dismemberment system for all characters, an immersive HUD that fades in context (called iHUD) and a more specific playable sandbox with new weapons, enemies and vehicles.

Turning the original Halo trilogy into a continuing story is certainly no easy task, and the small team has wanted to do it for over a decade. Maps and their environments will be completely redesigned, with higher resolution textures and improved skyboxes, while character, vehicle and weapon models will receive similar treatment.

Alexis adds that the labor of love isn’t done because the originals didn’t hold up or were bad, but because “they’re all pretty old and designed with the old limitations of the Xbox console right now.”

For example, some enemies from later parts of the trilogy will be in the game from the start, while others will be phased out to create more interesting encounters throughout the experience.

Halo Reborn is currently being rebuilt on Halo 3’s Master Chief Collection engine, but Alexis says the team could switch to Halo Reach as it has better tools and modern features.

“We are very happy that so many people are interested in our project. It’s great to see the community coming together and we can’t wait to show you more details of what we’re working on! Alexis adds.

There is no release window yet for Halo Reborn, and instead the team is taking a “finish when ready” approach to development. You can learn more about the project on its ModDB page and through the Discord teams.
