As days turned into months and months into years, Heafy was approached by Funcom to star in Metal: Hellsinger, the publisher’s new rhythmic shooter hybrid that also stars Arch Enemy’s Alyssa White-Gluz and Serge Tankian of System of a Down.

I met Heafy at Gamescom shortly before he hit the European stage for the first time in over two years. The free show (if you were lucky enough to be a Gamescom attendee) was one of the most anticipated events of the convention, though Heafy was still somewhat surprised that he flew to Cologne to “play one minute, five and a half minutes.” song.”

“It’s amazing to see my two worlds come together,” he says with a laugh. “I’ve been in the game longer than the music, so it’s great to see this finally come to fruition. Metal: Hellsinger gave me my first chance, it’s amazing.”

However, there was a lot of preparation to get here, as Heafy recalls first recording the track for his game, This Devastation, two years ago. listen and prepare [Gamescom] show I thought, “Can you let me do the scream again?” so i did the whole scream again. It just goes to show how special that feeling is: I said I had to do my voiceover for this game!

He also praises Hellsinger for its impressive cast of metal titans: “They definitely do it differently, bringing in the biggest names in metal; It’s pretty cool. I’ve always said that metal should be in games, and it’s still so rare that it isn’t. We look forward to it, but we don’t see it often.

“So to see Hellsinger bring in great singers, and I’m not talking about me here, it’s really amazing.”

Due to the pandemic, Heafy didn’t get a chance to meet his co-stars before Gamescom. “[I] all recorded from my house.” He recalls with a laugh: “I had a Two Feathers team. [the studio providing music for Hellsinger] on my phone on Facetime.” Despite this, he practiced This Devastation for three months. “I don’t approach anything with second thoughts,” she says, “when I sign up for something, I make sure I give it my all.”

Metal Hellsinger’s release date is set for September 15, 2022, and we can’t wait to rack our brains over Heafy’s voice trying (badly) to replicate his scream. Until then, be sure to check it out best rhythm games on pc in 2022 practice and follow in Matt’s footsteps.
