nvidia RTH4000 GPUs could be coming very soon, but the green team seems to be struggling with the specs of the RTX 4070. Two versions of the mid-range graphics card are rumored to be in the works, and the company has yet to decide which SKU it will make. Enter the battlefield of the game PC.
According to trusted Nvidia RTX 4000 leaker save 7kimiThere are four different variants of the RTX 4070, each with a different card layout. The first two, dubbed the 340/341, will apparently feature a full AD104 GPU, 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM, and a 192-bit memory bus, along with 7680 CUDA cores.
Nvidia’s alternative SKU, “336/337”, appears to include a smaller version of the AD104 chip, 7168 CUDA cores, 10GB of VRAM, and a smaller 160-bit bus. It should be noted that although Kopite7kimi indicates that both versions will have a total consumption of 250W, they will probably still need more juice than the RTX 3070 in terms of TDP.
Needless to say, the RTX 4070’s specs are a bit of a GPU paradox, and you should probably take any rumors with a grain of salt. The RTX 4000 reveal event is supposed to take place next month, so Nvidia will have to put on its skates and solve its Schrödinger cat problem.
However, this situation potentially adds weight to claims that only the RTX 4090 will launch this year, as Nvidia may be biding its time with the rest of the specs for its next best graphics card competitor. Naturally, this also means mid-range RDNA 3 variants could outperform the RTX 4070, as AMD CEO Lisa Su says all next-gen Radeon GPUs will launch in 2022.
