The prolific data miner of the Souls series, Zullie the WitchElden released a new video that touches on a somewhat controversial aspect of Ring and its handling of the challenge: enemies with Responding to certain actions (like the use of a healing bottle) almost instantly. Such actions are called “read inputs” by fans.
How come? The term “input reading” implies that the AI can detect your keystrokes, but Zullie’s findings suggest that Elden Ring’s enemy AI can observe the animation of your movements in the game. It can “see” your character performing a known action, such as lifting the bottle, and reacts accordingly. Lesser-known actions, such as the use of another optimization item instead, are not recognized.
Elden Ring’s enemy AI will use a similar feature to detect and dodge bullet spells. Zullie illustrates this last point by showing a boss who dodges even when she casts her spells away from him.
In a nutshell, enemies are programmed not to stand still to take magic blows in the face and not give us much room to heal. an easy example marginIf he notices we’re healed, he’ll shoot knives of the light. It’s not fair? Everyone can give their own answer, but remember that these attacks are generally to be avoided: Margit’s blades can be avoided by simply zigzagging while she heals. If you are far enough away, you will not take any damage. The goal is therefore to encourage the player not to panic and only heal when they can.
