Lords of the Fallen, one of the first truly Souls-like games, is getting a reboot that could fix some of the first game’s bugs. Lords of the Fallen, an action RPG, premiered in a three-minute trailer at Opening Night Live on August 23 at Gamescom, and it’s definitely a different game from Dark Souls.
The original Lords of the Fallen launched in 2014, and was one of the first games to blatantly replicate elements of FromSoft’s Dark Souls after the rise of the Souls series. Lords of the Fallen had the same crumbling dark fantasy gothic setting, the same experiencing coin drop mechanics, and the same slow and deliberate style of combat.
However, the first Lords of the Fallen failed in several areas, and a sequel seems poised to set the stage in the right direction. Publisher CI Games tapped developer Hexworks to work on The Lords of the Fallen, and the game is based on Unreal Engine 5 for PC and next-gen consoles.
Hexworks replaces Defiant Studios, a New York-based developer that CI Games severed ties with in 2019, citing “inadequate execution” and lower-than-expected quality of work. Defiant said he “strongly disagrees” with CI Games’ characterization of his work.
Anyway, here’s a trailer for The Lords of the Fallen, showing off Danzig’s “Mother”‘s perfect choice for a duel.
CI Games reports that The Lords of the Fallen is set a thousand years after the events of the first game and roughly five times longer, with a “huge, interconnected world” that’s filled with “a massive roster of NPCs to meet and stories to tell.” “. say.” reveal”. You’ll be able to use both fleshy melee and destructive magic in combat, and unlike the first game, you’ll be able to fully customize your character. There’s also “seamless cooperation,” so CI Games says they’ll be able to explore this collapsing world of ashes together.
A release date for The Lords of the Fallen hasn’t been set yet, but CI Games says the “full game” will arrive later this year.
