Destiny 2’s new season is officially called Destiny 2 Season of Plunder, and Bungie’s in-game FPS content runs from August 23 (now) to December 6. Destiny 2 Season of Plunder adds a cache of new actions, pirates, and the ability to transform into a cannonball to attack and damage enemy ships.
Destiny 2 Season of Plunder begins with Eramis breaking out of prison, gathering a band of cabals and pirates, and sailing the galaxy in search of relics and treasure. Why the mystery is meant for you to solve, but suffice it to say that the relics are connected to the Darkness, so whatever Eramis wants, it can’t be good.
You’ll gradually build your own team as you attempt to take on Eramis by gathering a group of degenerates and slackers to manage your own personal takeover so you can, as Bungie puts it, “make a badass pirate.” stuff.”
Some of that cool pirate stuff includes the new six-player Catch Crash mission. This is where you attack other ships and use special gadgets to arm yourself, throwing yourself and your teammates into a trap for your rivals to seriously ruin their day.
Expeditions is another activity where you have to guide and protect a huge drilling rig while it unearths buried treasure. Expect lots of waves of pirates and cabals trying to stop you.
Finally, there’s the Pirate’s Hideout event, where you’ll need to find… well, pirate hideouts using the Map Fragments you find and collect to track down relics before Eramis does.
If you’re not quite ready for the new season of Destiny yet, or if you’re just getting on board for the first time, Bungie has a Gift of the Thunder God starter pack with exotic armor and weapons to help boost your ability.
