PC ray tracing performance in Spider-Man Remastered works best with DDR5 RAM.

Spider-Man Remastered can be quite a demanding PC game if you crank up the graphics settings, as even the most powerful systems struggle to maintain high performance levels with ray tracing enabled. It now appears that DDR5 RAM could play a key role in increasing frame rates while also enabling all the visual bells and whistles of gaming.

After running multiple tests on Spider-Man Remastered on over 30 CPUs, Steve from Hardware Unboxed discovered the potential benefits of DDR5 gaming memory when ray tracing is enabled. His data shows that the best processor for gaming, the Intel Core i9 12900K, can deliver significantly higher frame rates when paired with newer spec memory sets compared to older, slower DDR4 sticks.

To be more specific, when paired with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, the average frame rate of a Core i9 12900K gaming PC with DDR5 RAM increased by around 36% compared to DDR4 results at 1080p. Steve also suggests that the L3 cache may also play a role in improving performance, as more cores seem unable to improve frame rates at all.

As expected, moving to higher resolutions leads to more GPU-bound scenarios and results in fewer performance gains. However, it does underscore how particularly heavy the game can be on your CPU, which was pointed out in our Spider-Man Remastered review.

Unfortunately, those with Team Red chips will have to wait for AMD’s Ryzen 7000 processors to hit the market before they can take advantage of this frame rate boost in Spider-Man Remastered. Alternatively, those looking for a cheaper upgrade can wait for Raptor Lake processors to launch, which should bring down the cost of 12th Gen Intel Core components.
