Confirmed for Gamescom 2022, Outlast Trials gives fans a taste of the psychological horror to come.
Outlast is a series that constantly pushes the boundaries when it comes to horror games and offers gamers all kinds of spooky encounters. Red Barrels’ original entry in the Outlast series debuted in 2013, and players take on the role of investigative reporter Miles Upshur, who is trapped while investigating the Mount Massive Asylum mental institution. We’ve since seen the DLC Outlast: Whistleblower and its sequel to Outlast 2, 2017. Now, a new take on the stressful horror will be released later this year – The Outlast Trials.
Host Jeff Quigley announced that the “new look” will be showcased at Gamescom 2022 as part of Opening Night Live.

Outlast Trials is the prequel to the first two games in the series and plays out a bit differently. In the Cold War era, players have the option of playing with friends in co-op or continuing the game alone. This will be the first time the Outlast franchise has featured multiplayer, and fans are ready to see how it affects the horror experience.
“In a world of insecurity, fear, and violence, your morals will be questioned, your stamina tested, and your sanity shattered,” reads the game’s official description.
Judging by the games announced at Gamescom 2021, it’s safe to say it won’t be easy.
