The new Oculus Quest 2 v43 update has started rolling out globally and has finally removed the Facebook login requirements on VR headsets. However, the personal data contained in your new meta-account will continue to be processed by more or less the same company.

The Meta Quest Version 43 Release Notes blog post shows that Meta Accounts will bring more changes to social interactions in Quest 2, as detailed by Oculus Community Manager_RyanS. In addition to providing an alternate login method, Oculus profiles will migrate to the new Meta Horizon profile and friends will become subscribers.

This update will also introduce a “Meta Quest Guide” that offers video tutorials on how to get the most out of the device and its features, making learning about the best VR headsets much easier.

We’ll likely see a similar account structure adopted by Project Cambria when it launches, but that has yet to be confirmed.
