Strategy game Cold War Regiments has just been released on Steam, giving players another chance to join the battle in the sunny hills of Germany in the late 1980s. Like Eugen’s latest RTS Warno, Regiments It’s about real units in a cold war scenario between NATO and the USSR, although Regiments includes a single player campaign and seems to keep the scale a bit smaller.
In regiments, you will command squads, not individual squads. These include infantry, engineers, scouts, armored vehicles, mechanized infantry vehicles, aircraft, and artillery, and allow for a variety of realistic commands. Instead of just saying “come here”, you can tell the unit to move quickly or to “search” the location.
You’ll also find similar controls in more intense strategy series like Combat Mission, but Regiments is much more accessible. You’ll still have over 100 vehicles to command in seven “Operations” or mini-campaigns, each covering a different perspective on warfare.
Here is the announcement trailer:
You can find the shelves on Steam. It comes from publisher MicroProse, a 1990s simulation and strategy hub that was responsible for games like Carrier Command, the first two Civilization games, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
