Interesting details continue to emerge from documents Microsoft has submitted to the Brazilian antitrust. In one of the documents, the Redmond giant said: PS4 sold more than twice the number of units when compared with Xbox One in the past generation.
Microsoft didn’t share exact numbers for Xbox One’s units sold, though it stopped doing so in 2015 but acknowledged that the numbers were significantly lower than those recorded by the PS4.
The company also explains that Xbox Game Pass was created precisely in response to lower sales than the competition and a desire to move away from a hardware-centric business.
“Sony has surpassed Microsoft in console sales and installed base, and has sold more than double the Xbox (One) in the last generation,” the document submitted by Microsoft states.
“Microsoft’s subscription-based gaming offering, Xbox Game Pass, was released as the company’s competitive response to Xbox One’s failure in the console war.”
In May, Sony announced that the PS4 had sold 117 million units worldwide. This is the latest official estimate, given that the company hasn’t decided that it will offer further updates on console sales in the future.
According to Microsoft’s statements, it should have been sold between Xbox One. 50 – 60 million unitshowever note that this is still an unofficial estimate.
