Series of panels held in the conference hall arenaInternational Convention Center (ICC), Birmingham, on topics such as ‘The role of esports in #worldconnected’, ‘Esports: A focus on the UK and the Commonwealth’, ‘Business, technology and education, equality and inclusion’, ‘Esports’, ‘Sports, music and entertainment’, ‘Youth in touch” and “Future”. The Innovation Showcase allowed attendees to take advantage of active export technology provided by partners GEF Refract Technologies, Init Esports and the World Freestyle Football Association. The excitement couldn’t have been greater as the athletes and ICC officials were finally able to see the stadium in all its glory.
“I have entered this arena and you are looking at the lights and you are excited – people are excited.“, he declared Kathy Sadler, CEO of the Commonwealth Games Federation. “This is my 7th Commonwealth Games where I was an athlete, assistant chief of mission and looked after public investment in sports and so I’ve seen a lot but Birmingham really fired me up. The excitement that something new could be added at the Commonwealth Games has grown and I look forward to working with a larger team to appreciate it. We have a long term partnership with esports and we can’t wait to see what we can do next. My grandson is a gamer and he asked me where to watch it. I really understand the enthusiasm“.
Paul J. Foster, CEO of the Global Esports Federation, agrees. “It exceeded our expectations, it was extraordinary.” he said about the first day. “Here we are in parallel with the Commonwealth Games. The partnership with CGF was born out of the idea of being connected and helping each other, as well as our individual ambitions and goals. When you talk to players, athletes and our federations, I feel like we have exceeded their expectations.“.
