Over 20 years later, a new Fatal Fury game is on the way.

Developers SNK announced on August 8 that a new Fatal Fury game has been greenlit and is officially in development. The announcement marks over 20 years since the last major entry in the Fatal Fury/Garou series, the last of which was Garou: Mark of the Wolves in 1999.

Fatal Fury debuted on Neo Geo in 1991 and helped start the fighting game boom of the 90s. Besides Fatal Fury, SNK is known for establishing itself in the fighting game genre with games such as The King of Fighters, Metal Slug and Samurai Shodown.

SNK has released a teaser image for the recently announced Fatal Fury game, which you can check out below.

The teaser image shows classic warrior Rock Howard in a red long-sleeved jacket against a dark city backdrop.

SNK said of the announcement, “FATAL FURY/GAROU marks a new milestone in fighting game history so fans can look forward to the sequel to this legendary series.”

Of course, it’s still too early for a new game. However, not much is known at the moment, but more information will definitely come with time.
