The Dragon Quest series has one really distinctive feature: its monsters. The protagonists of the series may even remain unaffected, but Akira Toriyama – The person who took the (Square) Enix series from all life – they are very, very characteristic. Who doesn’t know the iconic Slime, Kougar, or potbellied dragons that make you laugh more than arouse fear?
In some ways, Dragon Quest’s monsters are more famous than their respective heroes, and it’s no surprise that all the spin-offs were centered around them years ago. While fans of the series have been waiting for a new Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker for a long time, Square Enix has drawn a curve as you will discover in our game. Dragon Quest Treasures specialbut a game that looks like there are some arrows in the bow.
Erik and Mia are on an adventure
We already know what the problem is in your head. We can almost see you posting in the comments section below and it sounds something like “Do I have to play Dragon Quest XI to understand the story?”. The answer is no, because the heroes of Dragon Quest Treasures Erik and Miaand Erik was basically the protagonist’s right-hand man in the original JRPG, this story takes place when the two were children, long before the fateful events described later in Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of a Lost Era, when Erik was already an adult. .
Their characters seem the same, however, but at the beginning of the game they know little about the story, except that Erik and Mia live on a Viking ship and dream of exploring the world. Porcus and Purrsulatwo strange creatures that lead them to a graveyard where our humans exhumed the Dragon Daggers and found, due to a series of circumstances, in the floating world of Draconia.
Draconia is an archipelago of several islands suspended in the sky, all characterized by very different biomes and environments. To get home, Erik and Mia will need to find seven Sfe-err. Dragon’s Stones, not just those who seek them: they will have to contend with pirates and pirates who want to seize them for their dark purposes. It will therefore be a race against time, but Erik and Mia will also have the opportunity to become very rich as Draconia hides many other treasures.
We still don’t know how structured Dragon Quest Treasures’ narrative is, an RPG that seems mainly game-oriented, but also has a rather eccentric cast, especially visually. antagonistsincludes a skeleton hacker and his crew. According to tradition, expect a strange story with adventure and irony.
treasure hunt
The spine of the game will revolve around searching for treasures that Erik and Mia will have to uncover and bring back to base where they will be evaluated and displayed: this part of the game is practically a triumph. fan servicebecause Square Enix had already predicted that Erik and his sister would find copies of nearly every Dragon Quest weapon, armor, and artifact in the series. What are the G’s earned by these treasures for…well, we still don’t know.
It is possible for Erik and Mia to spend money on upgrading their weapons and equipment, but in reality the player can only control and change one character at any given time. Or they could be related progress In history; for example, to start a new chapter you will need to accumulate a certain amount of Gs, but we are in the realm of conjecture.
But we know how to find treasures. It looks like they will have an artifact called Erik and Mia. Fortune Finder will show itself in the form of an arrow at your feet. It will be a bit like playing “water, fire, fire” because near a hidden treasure our monsters will start to wiggle and at this point we can supposedly use it. Treasury Vision taking a “picture” of our monsters’ perspective, which will briefly show the location of the treasure. In the end we will just have to recognize the place and look for the glow that represents buried treasure.
But it will not end there, because on the way rival gangs will try to steal it from us with real ambushes. back to base. Even if Erik and Mia only have a marginal role, we’re going to have to really engage in combat in these moments.
Dragon Daggers actually allow our little heroes to communicate with monsters and recruit them. They will then be able to pitch up to three people who will follow them. draconia: it’s unclear whether the world is an open world or a series of macro areas divided by downloads, but it seems that every explorable area will be extremely large and will evolve both horizontally and vertically. In fact, some monsters will give us additional movement abilities: vampire Using slime to fly around or leap from high platforms. Metroidvania-like dynamics should add some color to the exploration, but it’s not very clear how you can actually summon monsters and add them to your team.
Also, it’s still a mystery battle systemIt will be real-time, not turn-based like in Dragon Quest XI. In this case, our monsters will autonomously attack enemies that would attack Erik or Mia, but will be able to escape or hit distracted opponents with daggers and possibly some special hits drawn on the indicator below their portrait. This is also one aspect of the game that Square Enix should clarify in the coming weeks: Dragon Quest Treasures is still a few months away from release, but what we’ve seen definitely deserves some in-depth study.
Dragon Quest Treasures is not a casual turn-based RPG like Dragon Quest XI, but a hybrid game with a combination of adventure, real-time combat, and a distinctive collectible dynamic that almost feels like a giant minigame. There are many aspects that need to be clarified starting with the combat system, but it’s hard to predict whether the new spin-off will have the same success as Dragon Quest Builders or will remain a welcome brace for fans of the series.
