The Steam Deck experience just got better with an update

A major Steam Deck update has arrived and Valve’s gaming laptop now performs even better when docked. It can also warn you when it’s too hot or too cold, and the patch fixes other issues like the responsiveness of the on-screen keyboard.

Latest Steam Bridge Update contains various fixes and improvements, all of which have been tested on the SteamOS Beta and Preview channels. The stable version of the OS now has autoscaling when connected to a gaming monitor, and you can easily adjust display settings to match displays with off-screen issues.

Along with the docking shenanigans, Valve’s SteamOS update also comes with a number of fixes, including a new temperature warning system designed to alert you when the system is “out of safe operating range.”

Valve warned last month that Steam Deck performance could drop at temperatures above 35°C, a conversation that has been fueled by some pretty intense heat. While you certainly don’t need a big flashing warning sign to let you know when it’s too hot or too cold, a portable power station will alert you when jobsite conditions aren’t to your liking.

Valve says all current Steam-only skins will ship in 2022, and the latest update means newcomers can enjoy a more polished experience. In particular, the new external display features should help the Pocket PC function as an alternative to a gaming desktop PC, especially if you’re using an accessory like the Jsaux Steam Deck Dock.

SteamOS has changed a lot since its debut, but Valve has also been hard at work improving its hardware. The savvy fan has noticed some tweaks to the Steam Deck recently, as the newer Q3 models seem to have nicer buttons and an improved tactile feel.
