Steam Deck user highlights Valve’s subtle hardware tweaks

Steam Deck has only been around for a few months, but the portable gaming PC is already on the rise. While some of Valve’s tweaks and changes are subtle or obvious, one fan has identified some subtle differences between the old and new Steam console, and these tweaks can improve the performance of the PDA hardware.

In a Reddit post, steam bridge Fan Athan614 compares a pre-ordered Q2 device to the latest version of the device, and Valve has made some tricky changes. First, the left and right Steam and Settings buttons are now 1mm taller and have a nice tactile click.

The softness of the previous Steam Deck buttons is a complaint shared by many PDA owners. So the fact that Valve has addressed this issue shows that the company is listening and responding to feedback. The “B” button on the face also seems to feel better with thumbs, as Athan614 says it no longer sticks intermittently.

In addition to the buttons, Valve has also made some tactile improvements, as the vibration of the device seems to be stronger compared to the Q2 model. Our Steam Deck review indicates that handheld haptic feedback could be a bit more engaging, so we may not need to wait for the Steam Deck 2 release to address this particular handheld issue.

Valve says that all customers who pre-order will receive their Steam platform before 2023, and it looks like newcomers will have a better device to download. Whether further changes will be made between batches remains to be seen, but the company is slowly transforming the small platform for the better.

Of course, the store giant has yet to convince desktop fans, because the official Steam Deck is nowhere to be found. Fans of versatility may want to wait for Valve’s Vaporware to come out, but alternatives like the Jsaux docking station can satisfy your gaming desktop needs.
