Intel Arc GPU launch delayed, future cards may be canceled

It looks like we’ll have to wait a while to get our hands on any Intel Arc Alchemist GPUs, as leaked documents show the company missing some key dates on its graphics card roadmap. To make matters worse, there are reports that the blue team is evaluating whether they should go ahead with plans to produce future generations of Arc pixel drives.

According to internal presentation slides obtained by YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead, Intel Arc Alchemist graphics cards from AIB like Asus, MSI, etc. They were due out in early August. However, that seems unlikely given the damning quotes from the board partners who also got MLID.

“As of today, we don’t know what’s going on,” says one AIB source, while another almost laughs at the idea that Intel Arc will launch this month, “we have no evidence that it will be this quarter! While Meanwhile, another partner says he will “shut this generation out for as long as he can without cutting ties completely,” for reasons related to the fact that the exit “takes too long and we want them to take us.”

Despite announced plans to release Intel Arc graphics cards every year through 2025, there now seem to be “high-level discussions about canceling dedicated Arc cards for desktop PCs.” Suffice to say, the future for the best graphics cards from the blue team looks bleak.

We don’t yet know when the Intel Arc GPUs will launch, but CEO Pat Gelsinger said we should still expect them in the third quarter of this year during a recent earnings call. Unfortunately, this could make the Pixel Alchemist processors a match for AMD’s RDNA 3 and RTX 4000 graphics cards, perhaps leaving them somewhat dead in terms of performance.
