Power drum and bass duo Koven made Rocket League history with the RCLS anthem All We Needed. Looking ahead, they’ve even set their sights on a spot on the ever-growing roster of League of Legends musicians.

Characterized by heavy electronica and the smooth, sometimes haunting voice of vocalist Kathy Geraghty, English drum and bass duo Koven have teamed up with Mobil 1 to release their new song ‘All We Needed’.

Inspired by music’s “natural connection to the road,” the song has been added to Rocket League’s ever-expanding playlist and will appear on the soundtrack of the upcoming Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS).

Collaborating with Monstercat and Psyonix to make that dream a reality, the duo have already set their sights on their next big project; a League of Legends track inspired by projects like Imagine Dragons, whose Enemy track, featured on the hit Netflix series Arcane and Warriors, became the theme song for the 2014 League of Legends World Championship.

race to the future

Although traveling the world and making music often gets in the way of their gaming sessions, Max and Katy always find time to take a break from a few Rocket League fights.

“We are both still fans of classic games like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro; it was nice to be back with updated versions,” says Coven. “Also, when we go to write, we always take our PlayStation with us, and we usually play a few Rocket League games in the evenings when we have time together.”

Playing the game as die-hard fans, listening to their own music as the backdrop to one of the biggest multiplayer games in the world, was a wild ride. “It’s completely crazy,” they enthused. “Because everything is ‘online’ it is very hard to imagine how huge it is and believe us what we have: you will fill 67 Wembley stadiums every day… even that is hard to imagine.”

Not only did they manage to sell out multiple Wembley stadiums, a feat most bands only dream of, but the music video for All We Needed is literally groundbreaking. Seamlessly blending real-life driving with the colorful virtual world of Rocket League, we’ve never seen a video like this before.

Despite the seriousness of his newfound fame in Rocket League, his urge (pun intended) to blend his music with everything in the game has only intensified; in fact, they targeted the League of Legends track.

“We always thought that one day streaming services would be integrated into games and become one,” they admit. “Obviously with music rights it’s a very difficult concept, but with more and more steam platforms it seems like an inevitability.

“We love what Imagine Dragons has done with League Of Legends and hope one day we can work with these developers on something.”

With the 2022 World Championship fast approaching, we’ll have to wait and see if Coven makes its League of Legends debut in San Francisco. They could also win a gig as Porter Robinson, the voice talent behind the 2022 League of Legends Star Guardian event.

As we look to the future, you can stream All We Need on your favorite platforms, including the Monstercat website.
