Overclocking the Intel Arc A380 GPU increases the frame rate in Doom Eternal by 60%

Intel Arc A380 isn’t the fastest GPU, but a beginner’s overclocking can greatly improve performance in games like Doom Eternal, Cyberpunk 2077, and God of War.

According to the Pro Hi-Tech YouTube channel, the Intel Arc Gunnir A380 Photon GPU only consumes 35W out of the box (via Hothardware). Naturally, the inclusion of an eight-pin connector suggests that the graphics card can handle more power, especially since the motherboard’s PCIe slot alone can supply up to 75W.

The A380 Arc GPU doesn’t support third-party overclocking tools, but Pro Hi-Tech says you can use the included Blue Team software to boost the base voltage. There is also a “GPU performance boost” slider that increases the power consumption of the graphics card, which uses a percentage scale to represent the increase.

By increasing the Intel Arc A380 slider to 55%, Pro Hi-Tech was able to increase Doom Eternal’s frame rate from 64fps to 102fps, a 60% jump from original performance. It should be noted that the test is based on 1080p with low settings enabled, but it still raises questions about the hidden potential of the GPU.

Benefits of overclocking Intel Arc A380

Doom Enteral isn’t the only game to benefit from Intel Arc overclocking, with Cyberpunk 2077, God of War, Watch Dogs: Legion, Rainbow Six Siege, and World of Tanks receiving frame rate increases. While Bethesda’s hellish FPS game benefited the most from the setting change, each version tested ran 20% faster and the Intel GPU outperformed the GTX 1650 in various tests.

Intel’s Arc Alchemist line has so far failed to impress critics or enthusiasts. However, these new A380 overclocking tests show there’s more to Team Blue’s GPU than meets the eye. Granted, this particular rig likely won’t compete with Nvidia’s RTX 4000 or AMD’s RDNA 3 graphics cards, but the lineup could hit the entry-level ring hard once Intel irons out its driver issues.
