Being the only magical dwarf in the valley is lonely, and one modder decided to solve that problem with Stardew Valley’s Durin’s Rest mod. It’s a brand new village in the Life game with new residents, marriage candidates (eventually), resource mines, and though it’s supposed to be named after one of the JRR Durin, it’s even home to a resident with pointy ears.
“Have you ever wondered where the other gnomes are? — said the creator of NoFogBob, describing the mod. “Don’t be surprised! Now you can explore a whole new city with new gnomes, a new shadow man and even an elf!
In its original form, Durin’s Rest is powered by Stardew Valley Expanded and includes seven new NPCs, a new customizable farm, new fish, crops, and trees, over 20 quests, and 71 amazing new cooking recipes. No more excuses to eat scrambled eggs with every meal.
Later, NoFogBob plans to add new matchable NPCs and, to satisfy even the most ambitious gnomes, an even deeper pit, though what we’ll find inside remains a mystery. NoFogBob didn’t mention what the new deeper pit contains.
There are a few caveats to keep in mind if you want to travel to Durin City (Rest). It is not compatible with Dwarven Brewing as Durin’s Rest has its own variation of this feature and not all missions work properly with Stardew Valley multiplayer. It will also not work with Deluxe Journal and Personal Effects Redux mods.
The Stardew Valley mod scene is getting more and more vibrant. Along with larger concerted efforts like Solid Foundations, it has separate projects like this and a recent modification that allows Susan to marry. Among the best Stardew Valley mods, there’s no shortage of fun mods either, including one that lets your neighbors drop by when they’re feeling social.
