Unkillable felguard bug in WoW, used in high level mythic mods

Earlier this week, we reported a rare bug in World of Warcraft where the mage’s felguard, the burly Rynnrike, was preventing Torghast’s progress upgrades even after exiting a roguelike dungeon. The player, hoping to avoid being suspended for using the exploit, went to great lengths to get rid of the unearned buff, eventually managing to get rid of the forbidden fruit with the Wrathguard glyph. Unfortunately, not all WoW players are so noble.

The player who first spotted the bug, Reddit user cc4s2b9x, stumbled upon the exploit by accident. So they didn’t make the most of their potential, having a Felguard with “only” 400,000 health and 12,000 damage per second.

Chinese WoW player Neo (灵魂复苏) posted a video on his Youtube demonstrating the destructive potential of this exploit with minimum and maximum use. His titanic powerful demon companion topped out at 2.6 million HP and averaged 175,000 damage per second, sometimes reaching 950,000. For context, 175,000 is almost 10 times the average DPS of Mythic Raiders. Neo showed a vicious demon at Mythic +26 and +29, killing both of them very quickly, often killing mobs in one hit with the devastating Fel Beast.

However, like cc4s2b9x, Neo does not attempt to exploit the bug for its own purposes. They posted a video to draw attention to the bug and encourage Blizzard to fix it. Others may not have been so public.

There have been indications that some of the recent Mythic+ record runs in China were done with this bug. Chinese operator NetEase has recorded two launches of Mists of Tirna Scithe, +31 and +34: the first breaking the previous record by around seven minutes, the second by around eight minutes. Interestingly, the errands were run by a group of two Warlock Warlocks, just after the Felguard bug was discovered. While it’s impossible to prove that the band used this exploit, it’s certainly hard to believe that previous recordings were broken so clearly out of the blue.

Unfortunately, the only exploit to get a new six-month subscription is a real exploit; have a big wallet. Luckily, it’s easy to find out about the changes to rogues in Dragonflight, just check out our article.
