Looking for Skull and Bones ship types? Ubisoft’s own Sea of Thieves-esque pirate game is coming to our shores on November 8, 2022, and we’re beginning to understand everything we can expect from pirate customization to ship combat and even their survival game aspects. In a developer blog uploaded in July, Ubisoft revealed more details about the Skull and Bones ship types and their uses.
There are three types of ships (and one rare) that you can control in Skull and Bones. These tiers have twelve ships to choose from at launch, each with their own unique perks. In a video on Ubisoft’s YouTube channel, senior game director Ryan Barnard confirmed that the goal is for players to build a versatile fleet with ships for different companies, rather than pooling all of their resources into one. This is what we know about Types of ships “Skull and Bones”.
First, the main thing to know about ship types in Skull and Bones is that all ships (except Doe) have some combat, navigation, and storage capabilities. However, your specific category determines which of these features are the most important or what your main advantages and disadvantages are. From there, their privileges and size also determine what you can do with each one.
“Skull and Bones” Start Dhow
When you first start the game, stranded on St. Ann after a shipwreck, you get a Doe, a small, fragile starter sloop. It won’t be much, but it’s exactly what you need to start working again. Use it to hunt wild animals and collect the resources you need to build bigger and better ships.
In terms of combat, there’s definitely no room for a cannon here, but you can still challenge other dow players to fun (but deadly) spear fights.

Slow but durable ship type. Great for hauling loot, but not so great in combat, freighters pretty much do what they say on the tin. While you can still load multiple weapons on your freighter, considering the size and weight, these ships are best suited for short-range missions that involve collecting or delivering large amounts of loot.
When you have multiple ships to choose from, you want to explore their individual advantages. All ships have them, so choosing a ship in each category may depend on the type of captain you want to be, your preferred adventure type, or the specific task. For example, the Padewakang has a larger cargo hull, while the Snow has improved attachment efficiency (more damage resistance in preparation for an attack).

Also heavy and slow, with minimal navigation but capable of carrying a huge arsenal, Firepower ships will of course be used when heading into dangerous waters. If you’re playing with friends, you might even want one of you on the Firepower ship to be your naval bodyguard no matter what. However, you probably don’t want to take it with you on a long trip.

The fastest type of ship with excellent sailing properties. Freighters are the only option when you have very long-term challenges ahead of you. This means that depending on other aspects of the adventure, you will have to pay special attention to the benefits. Ghanja, for example, has perks that make him more effective against enemy attacks, his increased front quadrant and increased impact damage allow him to break through enemy barriers with ease.
The most attentive will notice that there are only about ten ships in the list above. The two remaining Skull and Bones carriers are the Boat and the Corvette, presumably both large ships, and presumably cargo and firepower ships. However, we still don’t know which is which, as we haven’t seen them in any of Ubisoft’s developer blogs or gameplay videos.
