Blizzard has confirmed that its once-popular MOBA Heroes of the Storm won’t be getting any new content, but that hasn’t stopped HoTS players from trying to keep it.
While on paper Heroes of the Storm seemed like the perfect way to bring together all of Blizzard’s vast virtual universes, the game didn’t turn out to be one of the best MOBAs around, pale in comparison to games like League of Legends or Dota 2, and quickly falls into the dark.
As the wait time between updates grew exponentially, many quickly assumed that the developers were trying to close the book on HoTS for good, and they were right. Announcing in its July 8 blog post that “there are no plans to add any new paid content,” the game’s lifecycle has officially come to an end.
While fans were quick to lament Blizzard’s announcement, the upside is that the servers will remain up and bug fixes will be implemented so players can always come back. To quench the thirst for new content, one player suggested the developers revive old events, bringing them out of retirement to continue the game.
“Since we’re not getting anything new, can we have reworked fights and event quests (like toys)?” they ask. “I’ve seen a lot of old epic fights that were on HoTS and would love to play them for the first time… They already have codes (I think) so it won’t be hard for them to put them in the rotation for us.”

“Reusing past events is a good idea,” says one answer. It’s nostalgia for old players and new content for new players.”
Another asks Blizzard to resurrect Ghost Mines because “it’s not in rotation, but it’s available in custom games.”
As the curtain closes on Heroes of the Storm and the storm subsides, it’s the end of an era for many players. Hopefully, Blizzard decides to reintroduce old content to breathe some fresh (but familiar) air into their MOBA, but only time will tell.
