Blizzard Entertainment has put its spin-off game Heroes of the Storm into maintenance mode after its seventh anniversary.
In a post on the company’s news blog earlier on Friday, Blizzard announced that it will continue to support the title without future updates and put it in maintenance mode indefinitely. Although seasonal content will continue with occasional bug fixes and/or rebalancing, no new content will be added.
This follows a trend that began in 2018 when Blizzard shut down the game’s esports circuit, the Global Heroes Championship. The game’s last major update was in 2020 with the addition of Hogger as a playable hero.

“Heroes and their community are home to the most passionate players around the world, and we’re committed to ensuring you can continue to enjoy your adventures across the Nexus,” Blizzard said.
Heroes of the Storm will join other Blizzard games like StarCraft and its sequel, StarCraft II, in maintenance mode. Players will still be able to play, but the game will not receive major updates. The Season Rolls and Hero Rotation will still be active and the in-game store will remain open.
As a thank you to the community still playing it seven years later, the developers are giving away “an incredibly rare Epic Arcane Lizard mount to all players with next week’s patch.”
Blizzard concluded the message by writing, “Thank you to our community of heroes.” See you on the Nexus.
