Blizzard relies on World of Warcraft’s Dragonflight creation system, which features an extensive system of customizations and upgrades, and allows creators to specialize to the point where they might even create their own group of MMO stalwarts. Production orders are at the heart of this new system. Players who want to buy something can place a crafting order, specifying everything from the type of item to the reagents used, through an interface that Blizzard describes as intuitive and similar to an auction house menu. The master then goes through the list of available commissions, selects the one that matches his skills, supplies the missing reagents if needed, and executes the command.
However, the service is not free. The buyer and creator pay a commission to the new consortium of artisans because Blizzard decided that Dragonflight needed intermediaries.
Fee grunts aside, the goal is for crafters to build a clientele partly through good crafting service, but also by learning some of the new job specializations that will also make their Dragonflight debut. However, they are subject to future updates, so Blizzard hasn’t said anything about them yet, other than to say they exist.
Potentially more important is the quality system. Items in Dragonflight will have a quality rating from level one to five, with different effects added based on quality.
Tier 5 gear will have slightly better stats than, say, the equivalent of the same tier 1 item, while higher quality consumables may have more uses than usual. The effect will never be so dramatic that players paying for tier 5 items have a clear advantage, but Blizzard hopes it will be enough to create multiple markets for both high and low quality items.
This is just the tip of the brewing iceberg, so to speak. There’s a new set of crafting stats, including speed and resourcefulness, as well as a detailed description of how Blizzard expects players to use the quality system. You can check it out on the Blizzard blog.
This is just the latest information from Blizzard ahead of Dragonflight’s release. The most recent reveal is a full set of changes to the Priest class, and if the dataminers are right, there could be a few more surprises in store, including a Murloc mount and more.
