It looks like Nintendo could release Mario Kart for PC, or at least a version of it. The Mario Kart Tour Discord community reviewed the latest Mario Kart Tour update found by ResetEra user MondoMega and found a set of strings that seem to point to a PC port of Mario Kart Tour. These include mouse input recognition as well as a set of emulation strings, but you probably shouldn’t expect any (legitimate) form of Nintendo games to play on PC any time soon.
As MondoMega pointed out, Google’s Google Play Games project, which is currently in beta, allows Android users to emulate their games on PC, which seems like a reasonable explanation for what du Tour data miners have found. . In the past, Nintendo has insisted on not releasing its games on other platforms and only made concessions to mobile gaming when it could tie the experience to its flagship console games, at least that’s what they said.
Mario Kart Tour and Fire Emblem Heroes have gone standalone since their releases in 2019 and 2017 respectively, with Fire Emblem Heroes recently passing the $1 billion mark. However, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe being one of the NPD Group’s top 25 sellers every month, it’s unlikely that Nintendo will bring its greatest hits to other platforms.
However, the Mario Kart Tour database has indicated some major changes planned for future updates, including new courses, anti-gravity mechanics first introduced on console, battle mode, and some connection to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch.
And apparently that means we’ll see Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp and Fire Emblem Heroes coming to PC via emulation, possibly with login bonuses if you play on console too.
There are plenty more racing games on PC right now, including the first expansion for Forza Horizon 5 and a Hot Wheels ride through the Mexican countryside.
