Ubisoft is making some big changes to the Riders Republic map to bring attention to wildfires (thanks Axios). Riders Republic director Boris Maniora quietly posted an announcement on the Playing for the Planet website, revealing what players can expect in a “short” co-op event called Phoenix. Playing for the Planet is an initiative of the United Nations Environment Program that works with various sectors of the gaming industry to promote positive actions for the environment, and Project Phoenix teaches players not only actions that can prevent fires forest, but also ways to detect areas. under the greatest threat.
The Riders Republic Phoenix event will begin in late 2022, but in an effort to escalate the situation, Ubisoft is not announcing a specific start date.
“[Players] you will be immediately immersed in the aftermath of the wildfires on the outskirts of the map when the game loads,” said Maniora.
These effects include Ubisoft blocking off much of the Riders Republic map, initially forcing everyone to appear in gas masks, and adding orange skies and smoke effects. The game’s social hub will be transformed during the event and players will need to join the task force to stop the spread of the fire.
To do this, you need to know which areas of Sequoia National Park are most at risk when using photo mode. Phoenix overlays actual data from past fires in the area and predictions of future fires to help guide decision making. From there, groups of players will clear bushes and paths or protect trees by wrapping their trunks in aluminum foil.
We still rate Riders Republic as one of the best sports games on PC, though aside from the addition of BMX tricks in April, the bike adventure has been pretty quiet since its release in late 2021.
