Spellbreak is a free third-person spellchecker game released only in September 2020. Spellbreak never had the numbers like other battle royale games like Fortnite, Warzone, or Apex, but it still remained popular.
Questions about Spellbreak’s shutdown have just been asked, and we’re here to answer them.
Unfortunately, yes, Spellbreak plans to shut it down early next year. In addition to shutting down Spellbreak, Proletariat, the studio that created Spellbreak, is being absorbed by Blizzard. With a team of 100 people, this is one of Blizzard’s biggest acquisitions over the past decade.
This acquisition aims to accelerate the development of World of Warcraft. World of Warcraft is set to release its ninth expansion, World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, in December 2022.
The developers who originally worked on Spellbreak are now planning to help develop Dragonflight. Proletarian General Manager Seth Sivak said “the level of ambition for what we want to do with World of Warcraft” was a big reason they made this decision.
The shutdown date for the Spellbreak servers is currently unknown, but it will be in early 2023.
