How to create and use a Raft Recycler

The Raft Recycler is one of the most important crafting stations in the entire game, why? Because it can make you the richest shipwreck in the seven seas. Do you want to surprise your friends with a fridge? A sparkly pirate hat? Or maybe a viking horn? Building a rebreather is your first step.

It’s not that hard to understand, because raft processor it does almost exactly what the name suggests: it scraps spare items and turns them into scrap bins, which can then be traded at trading posts (in exchange for said pirate hat). Basically, you will need a refiner to get a lot of items, including Trade Coins, which is the currency used in these trading posts.

Where to find the recycling blueprint in Raft

If you want to get a rebreather, the first step is to find a rebreather plan. It is located in the highest room of the Radio Tower, the first landmark you will come across during the main story. Haven’t found the radio tower yet? Then try to build a receiver on your raft (exploring the foundry will help you with this).

Upon reaching the top of the radio tower, you’ll find the blueprint pinned to the board on the right hand side, next to the playable character Tala, which you can read more about in our guide on how to unlock new characters in The Raft.

You really don’t need to stick to a recycling plan. The refiner is added to the research table as soon as you pick up the blueprint, so the next step is to head back to your raft and learn the full crafting recipe.

Raft Recycler Crafting Recipe

To create a recycler, open the crafting menu and go to the “Other” tab (second from the top). This is what you need:

  • 6 plastic
  • 4 metal ingots
  • 2 bolts or 2 hinges (not both!)
  • 1 circuit board

Put it all together and bam, you have a recycler.

How to use the rebreather

Using the recycler is pretty simple: select a resource and press E to drop it on the machine. Recycling starts automatically as soon as you insert enough items. The exact amount depends on the quality of the items used: for example, you will need 30 planks, 15 nails, or 4 metal ingots.

Please note that the recycler only accepts “raw materials”, meaning waste (boards, palm leaves, plastic, etc.) and basic craft materials (screws, nails, etc.). The rebreather also needs to be charged, so make sure you put the battery on the right side of the machine.

Good luck and remember: get your trash in order until you get a new recycler! If you’re wondering how to unlock Temperance, be sure to check out our Raft Temperance codes guide.
