Do you want to unlock new Raft characters? The shark-infested survival game starts with just two characters, but you can unlock four more by beating the story. This may answer another of your questions if you’re new to the game: yes, Raft does have a story.
It is important to note that raft characters he doesn’t have any special abilities. But there are a few other reasons why you should collect them. First of all, you will always find them, so you can collect them (warning: they are easy to miss). Second, if you play with friends, it will be easier for you to differentiate yourself if you don’t all look alike.
Before you start hunting a character on a raft, it is important to know that once you unlock a character in a single save file, it will be unlocked forever. Playing with friends will also automatically unlock characters you meet. However, if someone else joins in after you’ve spoken to the new character, they’ll still need to do the same. You can switch characters in the main menu before starting the game.
Here is a short list of all Raft characters:
- Ruhi the male (initially unlocked)
- Maya, Female (Unlocked at Start)
- Tala, a woman
- johnny the man
- Elaine, wife
- Shogo the man
How to unlock new raft characters
To start looking for other Raft characters, you need to follow the story. The first step is to build a receiver and three antennas (place them one floor above sea level). Then enter the code shown in your search log. In addition to neighboring islands (green dots), the receiver will display the location of the next floor (blue dot). Head to the nearest blue dot to find the Radio Tower and Tala, where you’ll also find the Raft Recycle Blueprint needed to craft the Trash Cans.
This process remains practically the same. Every time you visit a new attraction, look for a note with contact details. Enter the coordinates into the receiver and navigate to the next location. You just have to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the playable characters along the way.
The location of each character in Raft
Unfortunately, the Raft playable characters will not come to greet you when you land on their islands. Here is a description of each character’s location:
- Tala: Radio tower. The first playable character is in a small room at the top of the tower. Getting there will require some serious parkour skills.
- Johnny: Balboa Island. You need to build Relay Station #6, located on one of the highest parts of the island. Once there, you have to climb some narrow stairs to get to Johnny.
- Elaine: Tangaroa Island. You’ll find her sitting in a safety chair at the top of the Tangaroa Tower, accessible through the roof. However, you can only enter this top after it breaks and lands in the ocean, becoming a mini tower in its own right. If it hasn’t happened yet, you need to go over the history first.
- Shogo: Moderation. It is inside a huge building with the name “Selene Research Center” above the door. However, you need to get a blowtorch and key from Selene before you can enter (more on that in our Raft Temperance code guide). Once inside, solve the puzzles in labs 2 and 1 to access the reactor room. After going through the snow covered tunnel, on the left you will see a computer. Interact with him to unlock Shogo.
Once you find a character, all you have to do is interact with them to join your team. Were it not for the constant danger of being eaten by a shark, we’d call it a fairly simple recruitment process.
