The AMD Ryzen 7000 series is almost ready and Red Team promises significant performance improvements and new features with its Zen 4 microarchitecture and AM5 platform. Support for DDR5 gaming RAM and PCIe 5.0 components will help these processors follow Alder Lake rivals for the title of best gaming processor, but these chips will also have to compete effectively with Intel’s Raptor Lake offerings.
Here’s everything we know about AMD Ryzen 7000 processors:
AMD Ryzen 7000 Release Date Window
The AMD Ryzen 7000 release date will be in the fall, as confirmed by CEO Dr. Lisa Su during the company’s Computex 2022 keynote. We should expect a specific longer release window in the coming months, but there are already many rumors claiming that it will become more clear when Zen 4 processors are available to buy in our gaming PCs.
Desktop versions of the Ryzen 7000 processors could go on sale as early as September 2022, almost two years after the Ryzen 5000 series launched in October 2020. graymon55the following models will make up the initial model range:
- AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
- AMD Ryzen 9 7900X
- AMD Ryzen 7 7800X
- AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
Interestingly, the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X never made an appearance, like the 5700X that preceded it, and it’s unclear when the more mainstream Ryzen 3 chips will arrive (if at all).
AMD Ryzen 7000 price speculation
It is not yet known at what price the AMD Ryzen 7000 processors will be sold, and there have been no credible leaks or rumors about it. However, we can draw conclusions based on several factors that are likely to affect the final MSRP of the Zen 4 processors.
Since TSMC recently increased the rate at which it charges AMD to produce wafers for its products, the Red team is able to pass on these higher costs to potential buyers of Ryzen 7000 processors by raising their prices. This will push the Ryzen 9 7950X MSRP above the $800 mark, as the Ryzen 9 5950X currently retails for $799.
However, competition from Intel’s Raptor Lake processors could cause AMD to opt for profit to maintain a better price point for the consumer. Since then, the company has reduced the prices of its Ryzen 5000 product stack, as well as launching new cheap deals following the launch of 12th Gen Intel Core processors.
AMD Ryzen 7000 Specifications
Much is already known about the main features of AMD Ryzen 7000 processors, even though there is little official information on specific models.
Each of the launched processors will feature up to two 5nm chips, each with up to eight Zen 4 cores, with the flagship offering 16 in total and 32 threads. We don’t yet know how high the Red team will be able to boost the clock speed, but the company showed off a prototype that runs up to 5.5GHz without overclocking.
The AMD Ryzen 7000 processors will also feature a new 6nm I/O chip that houses an RDNA 2 GPU. It also acts as a controller for DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 memory, which will be compatible to varying degrees with various chipsets that are make up the .AM5 ecosystem.
The X670E chipset is found on the best Zen 4 motherboards and offers up to 170W of power, 24 PCIe 5.0 lanes, 14 USB ports including 20Gbps and Type-C, WiFi 6e, Bluetooth 5.2, and up to four DisplayPort 2.0 and HDMI ports. 2.1. Meanwhile, the X670 and B650 boards will drop some of these features in exchange for lower prices. In fact, some Ryzen 7000 processors can support DDR4 RAM.
The first PCIe 5.0 storage devices are expected to hit the market alongside Ryzen 7000 processors, which could make AMD’s new processors the go-to choice for anyone looking to take full advantage of the best gaming SSDs.
AMD Ryzen 7000 Benchmarks
During the Computex 2022 keynote, AMD showed off the Ryzen 7000 processor, making Blender 31% faster than the Intel Core i9 12900K. However, as with all vendor demos, we can’t be sure that the company’s methodology wasn’t designed to favor their processors.
AMD also claims that its Ryzen 7000 processors will deliver at least a 15% single-threaded performance boost over their Ryzen 5000 predecessors, which should deliver more frames per second in top PC games (assuming you’re not limited for your GPU). However, the company hasn’t revealed how it arrived at this figure, so we’ll have to take it slow until we can run our own tests with a CPU with Zen 4 cores.
Sadly, we’ve yet to see the Ryzen 7000 chip appear in any performance databases or fall into the hands of third parties, but it’s only a matter of time before gaming benchmarks start showing up. .
