Do you want to know more about the Necromancer class in Diablo 4? Of course yes! Diablo 4’s fifth and final class has finally been unveiled, and we’re thrilled to see the fan-favorite from Diablo II once again join the bonfire in Blizzard’s long-running RPG series.
As in previous games, Necromancer class in Diablo 4. primarily a summoner who specializes in raising militias of skeletons and huge golems to defeat all enemies in his path. Blizzard has confirmed that this iteration of the Necromancer will be the most customizable in the series, and we’ve rounded up everything we know so far so you can decide if this ghastly spellcaster is right for you.
Means
Diablo 4 Necromancers consume two types of resources:
- Essence
- bodies
The essence is the main resource of the necromancer. Although it regenerates slowly over time, using basic abilities can generate essence much faster, allowing you to cast spells more often.
Meanwhile, the corpses of your fallen enemies can be used to summon minions and activate other abilities, including one of Diablo Necromancer’s most iconic abilities: Corpse Blast. Additional abilities like Decay allow you to create additional corpses as needed, so you’ll always run out of bodies to pick up.
armed
No weapon is better suited to a necromancer than the reaper scythe, and Diablo 4’s necromancer is the only class in the game that can wield it. However, it is by no means necessary to keep it in your hands throughout the game, and there are plenty of alternatives to equip if you don’t feel like harvesting.
Here are all the weapons and equipment the necromancer can use in Diablo 4:
- braids
- swords
- daggers
- Chopsticks
- concentrates
- Shields
curses
Curses are an essential part of any necromancer’s arsenal, and they’re making a comeback in Diablo 4. A brief explanation. what we expect from these powerful detriments:
- Decrepify: Decreases the enemy’s movement speed and damage dealt.
- Iron Maiden – Melee damage is reflected back to the attacker.
Skills
Here is a list of all known necromancer skills in Diablo 4, broken down by skill type:
Bone
Bone Spirit: Consumes all of the essence to summon a bone spirit that seeks out the nearest enemy, exploding on contact, dealing area damage. This damage scales based on the amount of Essence spent, so it’s important to max out the amount you have before using Bone Spirit.
Bone Prison: Hit the ground with your weapon and create a wall of bones to completely surround the enemy or target area. As the name suggests, enemies can’t pass through Bone Prison while it’s active, making it a great tool for capturing large groups of enemies or blocking hallways.
Bone Spear: While this iconic ability of the Necromancer has yet to be officially revealed, gameplay footage from Xbox Conference and Bethesda featured the Necromancer throwing a projectile very similar to this spell in previous games. This projectile deals damage when passing through enemies; bouncing off the wall, it splits into three smaller projectiles that deal additional damage.
Dark
Develop: Channel dark magic on enemies, dealing damage and generating essence at the same time. Decay also spawns corpses periodically, allowing you to summon a wave of skeletons and turn the tide of battle in no time.
Decline: Throws a ball of energy in any direction that explodes on impact (or when it expires), dealing immediate area damage and then additional damage over time to any enemies in the area for a short time. This ability pairs well with Bone Prison or any crowd control effect that keeps enemies at bay long enough to maximize the damage you can deal with this ability.
Blood
blood spatter: A short-range area attack that drains the blood of surrounding enemies to create a blood ring. The damage dealt by this attack depends entirely on how much blood the Necromancer draws, so make sure to position yourself in the center of the group to maximize its power.
blood mist: If stunned, this defensive ability grants temporary immunity to damage, turning the necromancer into a mist of blood. As a bonus, it also drains the life of any enemy you pass through, making it indispensable in decisive moments.
Book of the Dead
Casting spells is great, but the true power of necromancers lies in their unique ability to raise an army of the dead to do whatever they want. Diablo 4’s Necromancer has access to the Book of the Dead, a menu that allows you to customize and control your undead units more than ever. There are many types of minions that can be summoned and upgraded, plus the additional ability to sacrifice your summon to make your necromancer stronger. Sacrifice offers a lot of class flexibility, so if you didn’t like the Necromancer’s over-reliance on summons before, Diablo 4’s Necromancer allows for a more independent playstyle.
Here’s an overview of all the summonable minions available through the Book of the Dead and the bonuses you can get from upgrading and sacrificing them:
